ARTIST TALK: FIGUR(ATIONS)

As part of this year’s edition, Tricky Women Tricky Realities is hosting the Artist Talk Figur(ations) - Visual strategies and stagings of the body within animation that brings together filmmakers whose work is presented in the current festival edition. Structured around the central theme of visual strategies in representations of the body in animation, this discussion format fosters dialogue between filmmakers and the audience. This year’s Artist Talk will spotlight select animated works featured in the festival that showcase innovative visual languages in character design and processes of embodiment. The discussion will address questions around the potential that animation holds for depicting and staging bodies beyond conventional forms of representation.

How might animation challenge the male gaze embedded in so many portrayals of the body? And how do visual language and thematic exploration intertwine within this context? What role do joy, sensuality, and resistance play in the creative processes behind character design?

The talk will open with a keynote speech by Marina Rauchenbacher, starting at 13:00 followed by artists inputs.
