Confined by projections, shaped by expectations – these films capture bodies and selves resisting the frames imposed upon them. Whether through quiet defiance or deliberate acts of refusal, they break out, shed layers, and reject conformity. Sometimes it is only in these acts of transgression that boundaries become visible at all. By breaking the mold, resisting the gaze and challenging the norm, these characters follow their inner urges rather than external pressures to carve their own paths.
GLAZING

A body is confined by the frame, but thrives in constant transition. It inhabits ever changing positions, fitting into forms and patterns, becoming a symbol and projection surface. Yet she promptly discards each posture, rejecting the fantasy that each represents and returning the gaze of the observer.

SHEDDING
Vicky Smith , 2024, GB, 4 minutes A performance for the Bolex camera. A still figure, saturated with light, appears to be highly overexposed. A shedding of skins, of selves. As layers of the image dislodge it becomes apparent that the exposure is correct, and that the brightness is caused through multiple superimpositions.

Rebecca Blöcher, 2024, DE, 24 minutes My mother led a very unorthodox life, living in palaces and under bridges. Her independence was most important for her, which in the end became her undoing. She decided to live in her tiny car for 10 years. Only when the car broke down and she was unable to walk, we got the chance to re-connect.
